College Student Facing Deportation

Posted on February 28th, 2011 No Comments

A Mexican immigrant, who is a student at Stephen F. Austin, has recently been threatened with deportation by the Houston police department.

The student, who was not aware of his illegal immigrant status until his senior year of high school, was pulled over for speeding in Houston. Because he had unpaid parking tickets, he was taken to the local police station for what he thought would be just a couple of hours. The student was, instead, detained and interrogated about his time spent in the U.S.

The hearing for the student’s deportation will be held on March 9th. Several people have come to his defense, enciting the Dream Act, which, because he is a student, would allow him to stay in the U.S. and become a citizen.

Studies Show Divorce is Harder on Women

Posted on February 23rd, 2011 No Comments

It’s no secret that over half of all marriages end in divorce. This number has been increasing in recent years. But who is affected more by a divorce – the man or the woman? New studies have shown that women actually suffer more than men after going through a divorce.

A magazine reported that the quality of a woman’s life drops by 45% from when she is married to when she is divorced. In addition to this, 37% more women than men suffer illnesses after a divorce. These numbers have been attributed to the financial and emotional stress that women undergo after a divorce. Many women who have had financial support from a husband have to suddenly figure out how to support themselves, which increases anxiety and stress.

The truth is, divorce is hard for everyone involved, including children. If you have decided to file for divorce and need the help of experienced attorneys, please contact the Conroe divorce attorneys of Garg & Associates, P.C. at 281-362-2865.

A 47 year-old man was recently convicted and sentenced to 25 years in prison after police found cocaine in the man’s home. He was found guilty of cocaine possession in a trial by jury, and he will not have a possibility for parole.

The man was convicted of the lesser charge of possession and was acquitted of the more serious charge of possession with the intent to sell. The judge sentenced him to 25 years in prison with no parole due to the fact that the man already had nine previous convictions for various felonies.

Being convicted of drug possession can have serious consequences. If you have been charged with drug possession, please contact the Conroe drug crime lawyers of Garg & Associates, P.C. at 281-362-2865.

Illegal Immigrant Forced to Leave Hospital Before Surgery

Posted on February 7th, 2011 No Comments

A woman awaiting surgery to remove a debilitating tumor on her spine was dispelled from the John Sealy Hospital in Galveston because she was an undocumented resident of the United States and did not have insurance.

Although the woman had already received one procedure at the hospital, she was told by a doctor to have the full surgery in her home country of Mexico. Her husband, a legal U.S. resident, was distraught over the way his wife was treated.

The woman and her husband went to several hospitals and clinics around the Texas area before finally being accepted and treated at the Ben Taub General Hospital in Houston.

This unethical treatment of immigrants is not an uncommon occurrence in hospitals around the country, even though hospitals are obligated to continue care for a patient regardless of their status of residency in the country.

If you or a loved one has suffered unfair and unethical treatment due to status of immigration, please contact the North Houston immigration attorneys at Garg & Associates, P.C. today at 281-362-2865.
