Dennis Quaid and wife file for divorce

Posted on March 12th, 2012 No Comments

Actor Dennis Quaid and his third wife, Kimberly Buffington-Quaid, filed for divorce in Travis County earlier this month after seven years of marriage. Buffington-Quaid says that conflicting personalities has ruled out the possibility of reconciliation.

The couple has two children, twins, born in 2007. A temporary custody order reveals that both have access to the twins and neither can remove them from school or the state without prior consent.

Buffington-Quaid says she is seeking attorney’s fees and spousal support. Another temporary order gives her the permission to use their home in Austin and their Mercedes, while Quaid will stay in a condo and have the Cadillac Escalade.

Beyonce’s parents finalize divorce

Posted on December 19th, 2011 No Comments

Parents of pop star Beyonce, Mathew and Tina Knowles have finalized their divorce, which was first filed two years ago. The Houston-based couple first filed for divorce in 2009 after Tina discovered her husband had an affair and fathered a child but both failed to show up in court.

Tina filed for divorce again in late August, claiming that there was no way to salvage their marriage due to their conflicting personalities. They had been married for 31 years.

Mathew, 60, was his daughter’s long-time manager until earlier this year and Tina, 57, founded a fashion line with Beyonce called House of Dereon.

Study finds link between divorce rate and age of first sexual encounter

Posted on July 6th, 2011 No Comments

A study was recently conducted by researchers at the University of Iowa which found that women who lost their virginity at a younger age had a higher rate of divorce than those who waited.

The study surveyed over 3,000 women who had been married at least once. It was found that 31 percent of women who had sex during their adolescence were later divorced from their husbands within five years and 47 percent were divorced within ten years. This was compared to the divorce rates of women who waited until they were out of their teens, which was 15 percent within five years and 27 percent within ten years.

Although this study does not specify that divorce is caused by teenage sex, psychologists have speculated that the higher rate of divorce among women who lost their virginity in their teen years could be due to the fact that they had a negative first sexual experience, which led to negative feelings about relationships.

Studies Show Divorce is Harder on Women

Posted on February 23rd, 2011 No Comments

It’s no secret that over half of all marriages end in divorce. This number has been increasing in recent years. But who is affected more by a divorce – the man or the woman? New studies have shown that women actually suffer more than men after going through a divorce.

A magazine reported that the quality of a woman’s life drops by 45% from when she is married to when she is divorced. In addition to this, 37% more women than men suffer illnesses after a divorce. These numbers have been attributed to the financial and emotional stress that women undergo after a divorce. Many women who have had financial support from a husband have to suddenly figure out how to support themselves, which increases anxiety and stress.

The truth is, divorce is hard for everyone involved, including children. If you have decided to file for divorce and need the help of experienced attorneys, please contact the Conroe divorce attorneys of Garg & Associates, P.C. at 281-362-2865.
