Judge orders spouses to swap social media passwords

Posted on November 22nd, 2011 No Comments

A Connecticut judge has ordered a couple in the middle of a divorce to swap their social media passwords to their lawyers to search for evidence of infidelity.

The husband filed for divorce after he says he found incriminating evidence on the home computer they share. Both parties are strictly forbidden to change their passwords, impersonate one another, or delete anything from their profiles after the woman texted a friend to change her password and delete certain messages after the judge announced his decision.

The husband says he has nothing to hide and has threatened to use the information they find on his wife’s social media profiles against her.

Most Texans remarry after divorce

Posted on September 13th, 2011 No Comments

New statistics from the American Community Survey show that, while divorce is the highest in southern states, Texas and other southern states also see more people remarrying soon after a divorce. Compared to the Northeast, where people usually marry at an older age and have lower divorce rates, those who divorce are not as likely to remarry.

Data suggests that regional marriage cultures effect marriage rates after divorce. Since residents in the Northeast don’t remarry as often as residents in the South, second marriages in the South are shown to last longer than anywhere else in the country. In other regions, like the West coast, most couples live together rather than marry. So when an unmarried couple breaks up and moves out, it does not count into the Census Bureau’s or American Community Survey’s research.

Higher divorce rates in the South

A new report by the US Census Bureau shows that divorce rates are higher in the South than in the Northeast. In 2009, there were 10.2 divorces per 1,000 men and 11.1 per 1,000 women in the South. In the Northeast, there were 7.2 divorces per 1,000 men and 7.5 per 1,000 women. A reason for the difference, suggests the Census Bureau, is because there are more marriages in the South than in the Northeast.

The national divorce average per 1,000 people is 9.2 for men and 9.7 for women. The report also found that recently divorced women were more likely to be in poverty compared to recently divorced men, 75% of children with divorced parents lived with their mothers, and most children living with a single parent were living below the poverty line.

Tiger Woods and now ex-wife Elin Nordegren finalized their divorce on Monday, August 23, in Panama City’s Bay County Circuit Court in Florida.

Nodegren’s attorney documented grounds of an “irretrievably broken” marriage in response to the evidence that Tiger Woods had affairs with multiple women that has inundated the news media in recent months.

Although the terms of the divorce remain undisclosed, issues of custody, visitation, and finances are said to be settled.

The couple issued a joint statement following the divorce, asking that their privacy be respected and upheld as they “adjust to a new family situation.”

Celebrity divorces almost always end up being replayed over and over by the media, their problems made larger and the messiness a matter of public record. Avoid even a semblance of that by contacting the Conroe North Houston divorce lawyers of Garg & Associates by calling 281-362-2865 today.

Amicable Divorce: A New Trend or An Oxymoron?

Posted on July 27th, 2010 No Comments

In author Lisa Belkins’ blog for The New York Times, she explores the idea of an amicable divorce. The friendly divorce is defined by, being a divorce “in which agreements are reached in a mediator’s office, or through “collaboration” with a lawyer and maybe a therapist and financial adviser, rather than in a courtroom,” writes Belkins.

Mediation is growing in popularity. Belkins writes that not everyone wants to hate each other after their divorce. Some are concerned that, if there is a possibility to remain friends and stay friendly after a divorce, then there is a possibility to stay in the marriage. With divorce rates rising, it is encouraging to know that people have options, depending on their own personal situation.

If you are exploring your options and want to consider an amicable end to your relationship, contact the Conroe Collaborative Law Attorneys at Garg & Associates, PC, by dialing 281-362-2865 today.

The cost of a divorce in Texas is often difficult to estimate. Divorce expenses may depend on a number of factors.

Some of the most important factors include the length of time needed for both spouses to reach an agreement about how to divide the property and handle child custody. The cost of a divorce may also increase if temporary orders or a trial is necessary.

The costs of divorces for both spouses

Posted on June 16th, 2010 No Comments

Going through a divorce may be expensive for both parties. Divorces often require both parties to hire lawyers and go through lengthy divorce proceedings or settlements.

In most cases, each party will be responsible for his or her legal fees. However, in some cases, divorce courts may allow either spouse to use community property to cover the legal expense.
