HPD officers reprimanded for officer DWI

Seven Houston law enforcement officers are in hot water after an investigation showed they helped cover up a fellow officer’s drunk driving accident. In April, a police sergeant crashed into an empty school bus on his way to work. The officer had bottles of wine and open beer cans in his car, but other officers at the scene claimed he was not drunk despite having a blood alcohol content of 0.176.

The sergeant has been fired from the Houston Police Department and at least two officers were suspended for one day without pay. The assistant chief was given a written reprimand. The bus driver was issued a ticket for failing to yield, which has since been dismissed.

Man hit by drunk driver could lose leg

A 24 year-old Midland man has been charged with a third-degree felony charge of intoxicated assault with a vehicle resulting in severe bodily injury after he hit a motorcyclist last Tuesday. The man hit the motorcyclist west of I-20 around 2:30am before he left the scene of the crime. He was found a little while later and was arrested after he failed three field sobriety tests local police administered.

The man initially refused a blood test, but state law requires one due to the severity of the accident. He was held on $30,000 bond and was released after it was paid. He could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

The motorcyclist, currently in critical condition, may lose his leg due to his injuries.

Oklahoma Coach Apologetic for DUI Arrest

Posted on March 14th, 2011 No Comments

A basketball coach for the Oklahoma school, Booker T. Washington, has recently spoken out about his regret for being arrested over a month ago on charges of a DUI.

The coach was arrested in January for driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.16. This was not the first DUI charge for the coach, as he had been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol in 2000 but never convicted. In an arraignment that took place last week, the coach plead not guilty to drunk driving. The result of his court hearing that took place this week has not yet been released.

The coach was suspended from his job for one month and has since apologized for his actions. He has also stated that he will never put himself in a negative situation such as this again.
