Mel Gibson and ex end custody battle

Posted on September 7th, 2011 No Comments

Last week, actor Mel Gibson and his ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva ended their year-long child custody battle over their 2 year-old daughter. Grigorieva will be given $750,000 and will live rent-free with her daughter in the former couple’s home until she is 18 years-old. Gibson is also to start a trust for his daughter, which she can acquire once she is of legal age.

However, Grigorieva could lose some of the $750,000 and Gibson could face more penalties if they violate their agreement to never publicly discuss their relationship. Both also agreed that they must not write or contribute to articles or books about one another.

Christina Milian split revealed

Posted on November 23rd, 2010 No Comments

Earlier this month, the well-known singer Christina Milian and her husband, The-Dream, reached an undisclosed divorce settlement.

The Chicago-Sun Times is now reporting that that settlement is a lump sum of $4 million and a $5,000 a month stipend for child support for the former couple’s daughter.

“Ms. Milian strongly believes that peaceful resolution is better for their child and that she is very pleased with the settlement and that it was accomplished out of court,” said Milian’s lawyer, Randy Kessler.

The pair split after pictures of The-Dream surfaced in which he was interacting in inappropriate ways with his assistant.

Speidi divorce was a sham

Posted on November 6th, 2010 No Comments

Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, the well-known reality TV stars, admitted recently that their much publicized divorce proceedings were faked.

According to the couple, their divorce was a sham set up because the UK network station ITV was interested in giving them a reality show that would document their split. In the end, the deal never materialized.

Pratt told US Life & Style magazine that “the divorce was real – just the idea behind it was different than most people’s.”

Randy & Elizabeth Travis to be divorced

Posted on October 29th, 2010 No Comments

Randy Travis, the well-known country singer, filed for divorce this Thursday from his wife of 19 years. She has also been his music manager for that period of time. He cited “a state of incompatibility exists between parties” as his reason for the divorce.

His wife, Elizabeth Travis, has been credited as the driving force behind getting Travis’ career off the ground after she first saw him perform in a nightclub that she and her ex-husband owned in the mid 1970’s.

She and Randy later got together and moved to Nashville in the 1980s, eventually securing a record deal and millions of albums sold.

The divorce petition requests an equal split of their assets.

New divorce study released

Posted on September 10th, 2010 No Comments

According to a recently published 25-year study, women who account for the majority income in their families are 40 percent more likely to get a divorce than those who do not account for a large share of the income.

Western Washington University Sociologist Jay Teachman says that access to money is one factor that makes it easier for these women to divorce their husbands, although bruised male egos also play a part in this trend.

The study, published in the October issue of the Journal of Family Issues, found that when the wife earned at least 60 percent of the family’s income, the likelihood of divorce was 38 percent higher.

It didn’t matter how rich or poor the pair was; the trend was percentage based. Many of the 2,500 women who participated in the study were of the generation (married between 1979-2002) who expected men to be the “breadwinners.”

“When marriages form, there’s expectations,” Teachman said. “So, if you get new information about the relationship, you’re likely to think, ‘This isn’t what I bargained for.’

“There’s some wounded egos, too. The man is going to expect he’ll make more money, and the wife is going to expect she’s not.

Women who bring it a larger portion of the family’s income may resent a man who doesn’t seem to be pulling his weight — “or suddenly decides to spend all his time making model planes,” Teachman said.

Teachman has stated that he was surprised that a woman’s earnings had such a strong effect on the divorce rate.

“I would like to do it again in 10 years with younger women, because it’s a different generation,” he said. “The group of women [in the study] are the last generation, who may not have expected to have the careers they ended up having.”
