A 33 year-old Houston man was arrested early this morning after he drove northbound in the southbound lanes of the North Freeway while he was intoxicated. Four vehicles and one squad car crashed trying to avoid the driver.

According to KHOU, authorities received several phone calls from motorists about the wrong-way driver. An officer was responding to the call when he nearly ran head-on with the drunk driver. He slammed into a retaining wall to avoid a collision and was later taken to Memorial Hermann as a precaution.

Four cars rear-ended each other after one saw the squad car crash. Police were able to finally catch up to drunk driver after he exited the freeway and arrested him for DWI.
