WHAT IF I CANNOT SETTLE BECAUSE I HAVE NO MONEY?
In the event you are unable to settle because you have no money, chances are you will have a judgment entered against you. However, because you live in Texas, the laws are friendlier to debtors than in most other states. A creditor cannot garnish your wages, your retirement accounts, government pensions, or take your house if it is homesteaded.
Additionally, cars are generally exempt for creditors who have a judgment against you. If you have no non-exempt assets, a judgment will really not be too effective against you and your lifestyle is unlikely to change dramatically.
