If my spouse files for divorce against me, and I don’t want the divorce, can I contest the divorce?

There is no such thing as contesting the divorce per se. However, if one spouse files for divorce and the other party does not really want the divorce, the party who is opposed to the divorce can state that in the Original Answer. The only time that this would be a good idea is if there is even a remote chance of reconciliation, or if there is a chance that both parties would be willing to attend some sort of marital counseling. If your spouse files for a divorce against you and you are in opposition, it is important for you to discuss this with your legal counsel, who may assist you in delaying the divorce process, which will give you and your spouse time to reconcile, and perhaps work things out.
