During the credit repair process, should I apply for new credit?

Applying for and getting credit while going through the repair process is not necessarily harmful to your credit score. However, you need to know that when you apply for credit, a hard inquiry will show up on your report. Hard inquiries are requests for the extension of credit that are generated when you apply for credit. Hard inquiries can have a negative effect on your score. That is why it is advisable to be judicious with credit application. A good rule of thumb is that while rebuilding your credit score, don’t apply for credit from a source until you know the criteria for getting it. Applying for credit and getting turned down will have a negative effect on your score. If you are unsure whether you will qualify for the credit your asking for, don’t ask for it.
